Latest News: Ordering Procedure for March
We have learned during the process of discovering God’s purposes for His church, that to be effective in spreading
the gospel and demonstrating His love, a church needs to have a mission to the world and a mission to the local
community. Although Greenwoods has generously supported missionaries all over the world for some time,
that is not enough. We need to send our own short-term missionaries overseas to be truly involved in a meaningful way.
In the same spirit, it is not enough to support local ministries; we need to have hands-on involvement in ministries
to the community. Historically, that has been a challenge for us. We have made many efforts to reach out to the
community around us with varying success, but have been praying for a way to involve all of our church in a
significant effort to provide an important service to those who need help in our area. Pastor Ed recently wrote,
“We believe that a ministry which targets a REAL NEED in our region is an essential key to reaching our neighbors
and community for Christ. Above and beyond this, we have folks in our own church struggling to make ends meet,
and could use something to help them stay afloat in our worsening economy.”
A rapidly growing ministry with very humble roots in Monroe, Georgia, is just the thing we have been praying for.
Since its inception in 1994, Angel Food Ministries has provided quality food at- what amounts to- about half
retail cost to a growing number of churches and people in need around the country. From a ministry solely to their
own community in Monroe, Angel Food has experienced explosive growth, and is now providing low cost food once a month,
exclusively through local churches, to more than a half a million people nationwide. For a full description of this
exciting program and how it works, check out the Angel Food website at:

Those of us who have worked to bring Angel Food to Greenwoods believe that the Holy Spirit has empowered this
ministry, both nationally, and this church as well. As an indication of this, when the concept was presented
to the church during a Sunday morning service last June, nearly half the congregation in attendance immediately
signed up to serve as volunteers for the once a month food distributions. Quite a few of those people had never
signed up for ministry before.
Our first Angel Food distribution was on Saturday, October 25, 2008. We had a total of 39 orders for that month.
The November, 2008 order was triple that figure. That growth was based only on word-of-mouth without formal
advertizing. We expect that kind of growth to continue based on the level of need in the community and the quality
of the food. Please monitor this website for updates on ordering and food distribution instructions.
